September 2009 High Power Rifle Match
        Robert Coffey won the September match with a score of 467-6X, in the process winning the Prone Slowfire match with 190-1X.  Bruce Kawaguchi won the Prone Rapidfire match with 96-3X. George Gaskill won the Sitting Rapidfire match with 94-1X and the Offhand match with 90-1X.
        After a week of 100°+ temperatures that amplified a massive (242 sq. mi.) arson-started forest fire in the part of Angeles National Forest that hadn't burned last year, the weather was pretty nice; clear and sunny but not oppressively hot or smoky.  Attendance was only nine shooters but considering that the road closure issue was not sorted out until about 12:30 AM Saturday and the Labor Day holiday, we were satisfied.  We also picked up at least three new club members.
        Tom Temple again served as Range Safety Officer and called the match.  Thanks again, Tom.
        Next match is October 3 (see the 2009 match schedule) and it is a 50 shot National Match course.  The October auxiliary match will be a 60 shot pistol match, any pistol, any sights.  See our new pistol page for more details.  Shooters who wish to fire the pistol match only should plan to arrive at the range by 10 AM for a pre-match orientation.  We are aiming for a 9:30 AM start time for the match.  See you there.

October 2009 High Power Rifle Match
        After finally getting his newly rebarreled rifle put together correctly, George Gaskill won the October rifle match with a score of 469-7X, in the process winning not a single individual match.  Bruce Kawaguchi won the Prone Slowfire match with 194-7X.  Robert Coffey won the Prone Rapidfire match with 97-1X and the Sitting Rapidfire match with 95-1X.  And Jim Liu won the Offhand match with 94.
          As an interesting side note, the Calfornia State Junior High Power Team won the National Infantry Trophy Match (Rattle Battle) this year at Camp Perry.  Two members of that team shot with us in December and February, Matt Chezem and Michael Chezem.
          Three shooters fired the 60 shot pistol match.  Bruce Kawaguchi won with a score of 535-4X, winning all three individual matches.
        The weather was nice; clear and sunny with a trace of fall.  Attendance was twelve rifle shooters and an additional two shooters for the pistol match.
        We continue to shoot the rapid fire stages under the new NRA rules that have everyone starting in the basic firing position.  See the NRA Rules changes page, particularly Sections 7 and 10.1.7.
