November/December 2011 High Power Rifle Matches

November 2011 High Power Service Rifle Match

Pat Hector won the November Service Rifle match with a score of 573-8X and a clean sweep of the individual matches.  Pat won the Slowfire Prone match with 98-2X, the Rapidfire Prone match with 195-37X, the Rapidfire Sitting match with 190-3X and the Offhand match with 90.
Four shooters fired the 50 yard rimfire silhouette match this month.  Pat Hector cleaned the match (first time ever for our match) with a score of 20.
We had a Thanksgiving turkey shoot, one shot offhand with Joe Duarte's M1 at a full page MR-31 target.   Mark Drennan won the turkey with a shot to the 7 ring.
The weather was pretty cold and somewhat windy but we got the whole match off.  Turnout was nine shooters in high power plus another two for the silhouette match.  This was OK compared to the September turnout.
Newly minted RSO George Gaskill served as Range Safety Officer and called the match.  And John Bottomley called the silhouette match.  Thanks, gentlemen.
Next match is December 3 (see the 2011 match schedule) and it is a 50 shot National Match course.  The December auxiliary match will be a 60 shot pistol match, any pistol, any sights.  See our pistol page for more details.  Shooters who wish to fire the pistol match only should plan to arrive at the range by 9 AM for a pre-match orientation.  We are aiming for the new 8:15 AM start time again for the match.  See you there.

December 2011 High Power Rifle Match

Michael Van Dyke won the December match with a score of 439-5X, taking the Slowfire Prone match with 177-3X and the Rapidfire Sitting match with 92-2X.  Mark Drennan won the Rapidfire Prone match with 91-1X and the Offhand match with 83.
Winter is making an early appearance this year too.  The temperature was very cold and it got progressively windier.  Eventually we had to refire the prone slow fire stage because too many targets were blown over, and we called a cease fire before the offhand stage to repair targets again.  The pistol match was cancelled because the targets wouldn't stay vertical.  Turnout was eight high power shooters.
Match Director and newly minted Range Safety Officer George Gaskill called and supervised the match this month and John Bottomley prepared the pistol match; our thanks to both of them.
The auxiliary match was a 60 shot pistol match at 25 yards.  It was cancelled due to high winds.
Next match is January 7 (see the 2012 match schedule) and it is a 50 shot National Match Course.  The January auxiliary match will be a 20 shot silhouette match.  We are aiming for a 8:15 AM start time.  See you there.

LARC Any Pistol/Any Sights 60 Shot Match - 5 December 2009
Final Results

The pistol match was cancelled due to high winds that prevented use of the pistol target frames.

LARC to Move to Fort Angeles

Beginning in January 2012, all future LARC matches, except possibly those held on rainy days, will be held on the ASR range known as Fort Angeles.  This range is located across the creek bed on the opposite side of the road from Moore and Moore.  This is a full 100 yard range.  We will be the only users so there won't be any of the usual distractions caused by general public users that were present on the pistol line.  The range is not completely developed at this point (although improvements are scheduled), so be prepared to set your mat on the dirt and maybe to have to make sling adjustments.  Start time will be the same as usual.
